Illustrated, As Advertised

7 - 27 March 2012

'Illustrated, as advertised' is the first solo exhibition by Steve Simpson, winner of the 2011 'Revolution' Illustration at Fire Competition, opening on Wednesday 7th March 2012, 6-8pm.. This Illustration at Fire Competition marks the second disbursement from the Fire €150,000 Arts Fund.

What's in the exhibition? Simpson has selected a mixture of commissioned and self initiated projects from the last couple of years of a career that spans over two decades. You'll recognise some of the work as having featured on billboards, others from hot sauce bottles and coffee cups. Some of the pieces have been specifically created for the show. The eclectic mix of images are united by Steve Simpson's vintage colour palette and inimitable sense of design.

Steve Simpson has created award winning illustration for high-profile advertising and design companies on a national and international scale. His idiosyncratic characters have appeared on everything from postage stamps to billboards, snack packaging to chilli bottles.

On the judging panel for the 'Revolution' Illustration at Fire Competition were Art Director at Ogilvy & Mather Laurence O'Byrne, The Small Print's Bren Byrne and The Copper House Gallery Curator Leszek Wolnik. Steve's winning image was  All the Signs of Revolution.
